Dune of Pilat
We took a long drive for a short mini break. Thanks to my better half who booked this getaway based on recommendations by our French teachers. The Dune of Pilat (French: Dune du Pilat, its official name), also known as Grande Dune du Pilat, is the highest sand dune in Europe. Situated in La Teste-de-Buch within the Arcachon Bay area of France, it lies 60 km (37.2 mi) southwest of Bordeaux along the Atlantic coast.
We did walk up the dunes and to the beach. Just remember that you will have to walk all the way back. We came early and the traffic was manageable but upon exiting, we could see queues of cars for miles trying to get in. No wonder the official website has a status check to show how busy the venue can be.
The pictures I took does not do this place justice and we were very lucky with the weather as it started pouring the following week after we left. I can only imagine walking up the wet sand.
