Carpenters – Top of The World
This is one of the first songs I learnt to sing when I was a child thanks to my mother in particular. We used to have this karaoke machine installed in our house and Carpenters were on the tracklist. It recently came back to me because my song started singing this song and I suspect it is in preparation of their annual school concert. They are usually told to keep it a secret from their parents.
The Carpenters, an iconic American musical duo consisting of siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter, emerged as one of the most successful pop acts of the 1970s. Known for their soft rock and easy listening hits, the Carpenters captivated audiences with their harmonious melodies and Karen’s distinct, warm contralto voice. One of their most celebrated songs, “Top of the World,” exemplifies the duo’s signature sound and lyrical optimism. Released as a single in 1973, the song quickly climbed the charts, becoming a number-one hit in the United States. “Top of the World” is characterized by its uplifting lyrics and catchy melody, reflecting a sense of joy and contentment that resonated with listeners worldwide. This timeless classic continues to be a testament to the Carpenters’ enduring legacy in the world of music.
