The Sporty One – Melanie C
Mel C was my favourite Spice Girl and when I heard about her Autobiography being published late last year, I knew it was only a matter of time before I read it. Oh well, in this case, listen to it on Audible.
It is officially the first audio book I completed in full. Mainly because it was narrated by Melanie C herself and it added a nice touch to it.
The book shares insights to the struggles and personal challenges she overcame during the early days of the Spice Girls and up to where she is now. Special takeaways I got was that the band spent sometime in Woking (where I was living in the UK) in the venue formerly called Trinity Studios in Knaphill. This was their rehearsal space when they got together.
If you are a fan of the Spice Girls, it gives some behind the scenes scoop of what was happening. Upon reflection, they were definately a trail blazer when they hit the scene. She also described about the time she went on as a solo artist and the struggles that came with it.
I have never read the memoirs of the other bandmates but it was interesting to get her personal view. Another focus of the book, highlights common challenges of anxiety, mental health and eating disorders which some she continues to manage.
Without risking spoiling the book too much, it is a must read or hear for all Spice Girls fans out there. And I can’t believe that their hit debut single, Wannabe is over 25 years old!
