Streaming Laws in France
Once I settled in France, I wanted to stream Thor Love and Thunder but was surprised it wasn’t available on Disney+ (Thankfully my UK account and subscription still works). I recall it being released to stream when I left the UK but didn’t think too much of it. Over the weekend, my kids wanted to watch Encanto and surprisingly, it wasn’t available as well.
I became curious and did some googling. This is due to a law that prohibits cinema releases to be on any streaming platform until 17 months of its cinema release. I find this a bit odd but apparently it is to protect cinema revenues and DVDs. And the 17 months is already a vast improvement from it’s original 3 years restrictions.
So, if you want to watch a blockbuster on one of your streaming services, you better get a VPN connection as well.
