Ohio Statehouse Free Guided Tour

I had time to spare on Friday and after my meeting ended, I headed straight to downtown Columbus to visit the statehouse. I got to know about the free tour around 3 years ago when I first visited. More details of the tour is available at their official site.

The Ohio Statehouse, situated in the heart of Columbus, is a stunning example of Greek Revival architecture, built between 1839 and 1861. This historic building serves as the seat of government for Ohio, housing the Ohio General Assembly and the ceremonial offices of key state officials. Its design, influenced by ancient Greek structures like the Parthenon, features a distinctive low conical roof atop a cupola, rather than the traditional dome found in many U.S. state capitol buildings. The Statehouse is a National Historic Landmark, attracting about 500,000 visitors annually, and has played host to significant historical events, including visits by President Abraham Lincoln.

Here are some pictures I took of inside.

I enjoy taking the time to explore downtown and hope that I can do more exploring in the future.
