Chateau de Monte Cristo
I knew about this place which is a stone throw away from where I live and finally decided on a sunny but cold afternoon to visit this place. After visiting Jules Verne’s house in Amiens, we decided to visit the country mansion of Alexandre Dumas.
Alexandre Dumas (1802–1870) was a prolific and celebrated French writer, best known for his historical adventure novels The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. His works are renowned for their dynamic characters, thrilling plots, and vivid storytelling, often weaving themes of heroism, friendship, and revenge. Born in Villers-Cotterêts, France, Dumas was of mixed race; his father, a general in Napoleon’s army, was the son of a French nobleman and an enslaved Haitian woman. Dumas’s background and experiences enriched his storytelling and positioned him as a significant figure in both French literature and cultural history. Over his lifetime, he wrote hundreds of works, including novels, plays, and travel essays, and his literary legacy continues to captivate readers worldwide.
What I discovered here was he likes cooking and even had a cookbook published.
I enjoyed visiting authors that have left a legacy with their timeless pieces. I find it inspirational to learn a bit more about their lives and their achievements!
We ended the evening by watching the film the Three Musketeers to celebrate one of his biggest works.
