The World of Jules Verne

I am in Amiens for my Birthday weekend and as I was selecting for a location, I discovered that Jules Verne used to be one of the most popular resident here. So, who is he?

Jules Verne, the renowned 19th-century French novelist and pioneer of science fiction, spent much of his later life in the city of Amiens, France. Verne is best known for works like Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in Eighty Days, which blend adventure with imaginative scientific concepts. His house in Amiens, where he lived from 1882 until his death in 1905, has been preserved as a museum. Located at 2 Rue Charles Dubois, the Jules Verne House offers visitors a glimpse into the writer’s life and creative process. The residence, with its period furnishings and collections of Verne’s manuscripts and memorabilia, reflects his fascination with travel and exploration. It remains a tribute to one of literature’s great visionaries.

The Tiny Corner Room Where He Wrote Some Of Greatest Works

We started watching a 1-minute overview on Youtube before visiting the house to get a bit more history of the author. So, he was a qualified lawyer and decided to chart his own path after not taking over his father’s law firm. Credit was given to his publisher which gave him his big break which led to multiple of his works being available to today. It was also clear that he could enjoy the fruits of his labour while he was alive.

Parking around the house was free on the weekend and we visited early as usual before picking up my son in his camp.
