WhiteWater Rafting & Caving at Gopeng

After hearing about my friend’s trip to Gopeng for caving and rafting, I was all excited and organized a day trip with some of my peers from the office. We started the day early by leaving Sungai Buloh at 7.15 p.m. The 200KM drive to the destination took about 2 hours whereby we arrived a little bit earlier than required.

The guides from Riverbug arrived on time and we they introduced themselves as Max and King. Both of them are Sabah natives. Once we geared up, we started our journey climbing over 900 steps from the mouth of the cave and ventured in deeper and deeper. Throughout the journey, we saw magnificent sites of historic markings of the communist that took shelter there and also from the miners. The natural stalegtites and stalegmites also took shapes of amazing creatures such as elephants and the mystical dragon. I tried to take load of pictures but due to the amount of light exposure, it did not turned out fairly well. I had to hand in my camera to the guide for safekeeping in a water proof bag.

We reached a dead end of the cave with a steep slope that leads to darkness. We were told to slide down and as more and more of us when down, our head lamps brighten up the area. We were soon gathered around this small hole whereby we were told that we needed to squeeze ourselves in. At first, I thought it was just the guides messing around with us but apparently not! I can’t help it but keep the movie “The Descent” playting in my head over and over again. The route that we took required us to commando crawl on the water and submerged ourselves to nearly head deep. We survive the whole route of about 2 hours.

Before I forget, if you are planning to go caving anytime soon, get head lamps as it saves you the hassle of carrying a torch light while you are crawling and avoiding obstacles. It was soon lunch time whereby we were served with Chinese food cooked in Kampung style at My Gopeng Resort where our base camp is for our whitewater rafting activity.

Once filled up, we were given a quick safety briefing which I found very helpful. They demonstrated how we should handle ourselves if we go overboard and some body rafting tips. We then carried our rafts to the river where our journey was about to begin.

Safety Briefing at Base Camp

The water level of the river was low and they mentioned it was on rating of 1-2 instead of its usual 2-3/3-4 in November. Since it was my first time, I did not mind. Here are some sequence shots from one of the drops in the rapids.

The whole rafting journey lasted for two hours covering about 7 kilometers.

As a conclusion, it was indeed a different way to spend the weekend and my next return there will be to jungle trek to Cameron Highlands.

That’s all for now!

Safest Storage

Have you ever stored something in a place so secure and random that you can’t even recall where it is when you need it? Well, I am ransacking my room now to find a document that I urgently need distracting myself from my original plan. I formulated my plan of searching for the document by recalling the last time I used it. It should be about three months ago and that is when I just barely moved into my new place and was living out boxes. It took me ages to get things properly in place and my suspected areas of where it could be is my cupboard which I have made worse than before. Since I am getting tired now, I better go off to bed and start my search once again tomorrow evening after work. I believe I will be able to find it eventually and it will be a good laugh. ;)

Goodnite everyone!

The Law of the Garbage Trucks

A forwarded mail that I have received that is worth sharing:

A good philosophy, worth trying

The Law of the Garbage Trucks

How often do you let other people’s nonsense change your mood? Do
you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee
ruin your day?

Unless you’re the Terminator, for an instant you’re probably set
back on your heels. However, the mark of a successful person is how
quickly she can get back her focus on what’s important.

I learned it in the back of a Harare City taxi cab. Here’s what
happened. I hopped in a taxi and we took off for Westgate .
We were driving when all of a sudden a black car jumped out of a parking
space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks,
skidded, and missed the other car’s back end by just inches!

Here’s what happened next. The driver of the other car, the guy who
almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started
yelling bad words at us. How do I know? Ask any Zimbabwean, some words
in Harare come with a special face.

Now, here’s what blew me away. My taxi driver just smiled and waved
at the guy. And I mean, he was friendly. So, I said, “Why did you just
do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!”

And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, “The Law
of the Garbage Truck.”

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of
garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment.
As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let
them, they’ll dump it on you.
When someone
wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. You just smile, wave,
wish them well, and move on. You’ll be happy you did. I guarantee it.

So this was it: The “Law of the Garbage Truck.” I started thinking,
how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I
take their garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home, on
the streets? It was that day I said, “I’m not going to do it anymore.”

I began to see garbage trucks. Like in the movie “The Sixth Sense,”
the little boy said, “I see Dead People.” Well now “I see Garbage
Trucks.”
I see the load
they’re carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my Taxi
Driver, I don’t make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, wish them
well, and I move on.

One of my favourite Football players of all times, Ronaldino, does
this every day on the football field. With a smile he always jumps up as
quickly as he hits the ground after being tackled. He never dwells on a
hit. Ronaldino is always ready to make the next play his best. Good
leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents
know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs
and kisses.

Leaders and parents know that they have to be fully present, and at
their best for the people they care about.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let Garbage Trucks
take over their day.

What about you? What would happen in your life, starting today, if
you let more garbage trucks pass you by? You’ll be happier. I guarantee
it.

Wonderful people are created by God. Wonderful moments are carefully
planned by God. And wonderful friends like you are carefully chosen by God.

Shayne Ward – If That’s Ok With You

This is the song that I am currently addicted to. For those who do not know who Shayne Ward is, he was the winner of UK singing competition X-Factor in 2005. We will know him better as the person that belted out the hit No Promises which is constantly on our airwaves.

Well, a quick search on Wikipedia reveals that he is the same age as me and even 4 days younger than me to be exact. Well, my point is I thought he was much older.

I also found this cool website called Esnips that allows you to share up to 5GB of your files online and this is the source where I am streaming the audio file from.

Watching the video, I notice similarities to David Beckham and Justin Timberlake, what do you think?

Enjoy this song and I am pretty sure it will be a chart topper.

Shaun The Sheep

The Sheep has always been very closely related to human for centuries. Their wool keep us warm through the cold winter nights and they also cater to the needs of some misunderstood people as demonstrated in the picture below.

The Inflateable Bonking Sheep
Well, before I digress, the makers of Wallace and Gromit which uses the art of clay mation have came up with a brand new series called Shaun The Sheep which I have to admit, am a huge fan of it.

I first watched this series on the plane and would like to share it with you all. Feel free to call me childish because I admit that I am still a kid at heart. (Not anything like Micheal Jackson though!)

Here is what the maker’s description of the series are:”Get ready for chaos in the countryside as Aardman’s ever-popular Shaun The Sheep returns in his very own TV series.

Shaun is a sheep who doesn’t follow the flock – in fact, he leads them into all sort of scrapes and scraps, turning peace in the valley into mayhem in the meadow. Shaun and his pals run rings around their poor sheepdog Bitzer, as he tries to stop the Farmer finding out what’s going on behind his back. The show also introduces a farmyard-full of new characters, including the Naughty Pigs, Timmy the baby lamb and the enormous Shirley, a sheep who eats anything and everything.

Every day brings a new adventure for Shaun – a stray cabbage bouncing into the field turns into a football feud with the Naughty Pigs, and a freezing cold sheep dip sends him on a commando raid to get hot water from the Farmer’s bathroom. With high-energy slapstick and classic silent comedy in Aardman’s world-beating animation style, one thing’s for sure – when Shaun’s around, the countryside will never be the same again”

Here are some clips from the website:

Still Life

Besides Shaun The Sheep, I have also developed a following for Pingu after the watching my first ever episode yesterday morning on Astro.

I always played with clay during my childhood and created similar scenes with my own characters. The good thing about the above mentioned two series are that the stories are told through easy actions and are very simple to follow. Anyone no matter how old can relate to them.

Trust me that they are very good stress reliever.

That’s all for now and till my next post, take care!

Better Than National Geographic

This happens to be the best live footage of the wild that I have ever seen. The video is just a little under 9 minutes but it is worth spending that time watching it.

I believe the video is captured somewhere in South Africa because of their accent. It shows the best of the wild and how the weakest can be the strongest and unmatched in a team. This box office standard production by mother nature features Crocodiles or Aligators (don’t know the difference), Buffalos and Lions.

I hope you have enjoyed the video and share with me what you think!

Buh Bye and will keep you bunch posted!

Cheers!

Create Your Own Avatar

The arrival of Web 2.0 have foster a new generation of inter communication between websites. I myself have always welcome this change and are looking forward at what areas that the internet is stretching itself to. Besides the duplication of content that Google and major search engines are trying to cut down on, there are a few cool applications that works well with social networking sites such as Friendster.com and my new craze Facebook.com.

I stumbled upon RockYou.com and made an assumption that it is just another Slide.com which is a web based image slide show generation tool like what has been created below. All you need to do is allow it to communicate with your web based photo hosting page and it will automatically syndicate content from there.

RockYou.com had a special feature that kind of encourage me to try it as you may already know that I am a self worshipper. It is a create your own Avatar tool. All you need is a full face photo of yourself and you can follow the on screen instructions. (You will need to create an account for this, registration only requires your e-mail address and a password of choice)

Well, look at what I have come up with and I used the text to speech converter as my mic did not seem to be working after several rounds of recording. (Which explain’s my Manly voice)

Rockyou.com features does not end there as they have a wider range of other tools that you can mess with and jazz up your blog or pages of your sites.

That’s all for now and let me end this with a one line summary: Rockyou.com Rocks!

Free Reflex Tester Game
